The report details the various blood components and their amounts. For those without a medical background, reports from blood tests can be complex and difficult to decipher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We provide information to help you understand more about blood test results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Abbreviations for blood tests<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Blood test results typically use the metric measurement system and a variety of abbreviations, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>hmm:<\/strong> cells per cubic millimeter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>fL (femtoliter)<\/strong>: one millionth of a liter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>g\/dl<\/strong>: grams per deciliter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>TV\/L<\/strong>: international units per liter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>mEq\/l<\/strong>: milliequivalent per liter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>mg\/dL<\/strong>: milligrams per deciliter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Jr<\/strong>: milliliter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>mmol\/l<\/strong>: millimoles per liter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ng\/ml<\/strong>: nanograms per milliliter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PG (icons)<\/strong>: one trillionth of a gram<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Components of blood test results<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A blood test usually includes a complete blood count, a complete blood count, a metabolic panel, and a lipid panel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Confusingly, it is likely that the results of the three tests will not be separated from each other and will instead be listed on one large sheet. By measuring the volume of blood cells, a CBC allows a doctor to assess a person&#039;s overall health, as well as check for problems such as leukemia and anemia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>White blood cell (WBC) count<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Also known as leukocytes, white blood cells are a major component of the body&#039;s immune system. A high white blood cell count can indicate the presence of an infection, while a low count can indicate a variety of problems, including HIV, leukemia, hepatitis, and arthritis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Differential white blood cell count<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The lab examines the five main components of white blood cells and their relationship to each other. If the components are out of balance, it can mean infection, as well as various health problems. Healthy proportions for each are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Neutrophils:<\/strong> from 40 to 60 percent of the total. The relative proportion of neutrophils is usually higher in bacterial and fungal infections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lymphocytes:<\/strong> from 20 to 40 percent An increased number indicates a viral infection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Monocytes:<\/strong> from 2 to 8 percent. Elevated monocytes indicate chronic infections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Eosinophils:<\/strong> from 1 to 4 percent.
